While getting our annual a/c check from another provider, we learned that our 22-year old unit was leaking Freon and that it would not be worthwhile to repair it. We did receive a replacement quote from our current provider, who installs only Lennox equipment. After some research, we decided that we wanted an American Standard unit rather than Lennox and began searching for certified HVAC professionals. We met with several HVAC professionals over a period of about a month. We were very surprised that when we called some of these contractors, they immediately gave a price over the phone without ever visiting our home and seeing specifics of our situation. Even so, we did schedule appointments for them to come to our home to actually see the size of the home and the existing unit. Some of the contractors had to be prompted to provide a written proposal. Some took over a week to provide a written quote. Some of the proposals/quotes were very vague and left us feeling uncomfortable. We were about to go back with our current HVAC provider and get the Lennox.
However, we received a coupon in the mail from Chatham Comfort Controls. I was reviewing the coupon on a Sunday afternoon, went to their website to check them out, and decided to try to at least get a price quote from them before contacting our current HVAC provider. I completed the on-line information request and received a telephone call from Chatham within two minutes of entering the data on a Sunday afternoon. I was quite surprised to receive this phone call so promptly. Beyond that, this was not some automated response or even a call center. It was the actual owner, although I did not know this at the time. I explained that we wanted a price quote for a 4-ton, 2-stage American Standard A/C unit. Based on my experience with some of the other providers, I expected that he would quote a price over the phone. Instead, he immediately asked if he could come to our home the next afternoon to view the job. We scheduled the appointment and Jon Delaforet met with my husband the next afternoon. My husband had met with all of the other installers and stated that Jon of Chatham was by far the most professional person with whom he had met. He provided helpful information to assist us in understanding the differences between units. Within 24 hours of visiting our home, we received written proposals via email for several A/C unit options. I had a few questions that I sent to Jon via email and again received prompt responses. Shortly thereafter, we scheduled a date for the work to be completed. On the scheduled installation date, Jon arrived at our home as scheduled.
Due to a delay in obtaining the necessary attachment piece for our unit, he told my husband that they were unable to complete the installation on that date and apologized for the delay. Jon made a special point of stating that this was not something that he wanted to discuss over the phone. Instead, he insisted that he needed to communicate this information face-to-face, which he did. We rescheduled the installation for a few days later. On the next scheduled date, Jon and his crew arrived approximately an hour early. My husband noticed them waiting in their van outside our home. He went outside to let them know it was ok to start the work. From there, everything moved along quite smoothly. Jon kept us informed of progress throughout their work and everything was completed within their previously announced estimated time frame. Everyone on the crew was very pleasant, courteous, and respectful of our home. Everything was cleaned up inside and out before they left. My husband and I had some errands to run and left the house shortly after the work was completed. When we returned, our home was wonderfully cool and comfortable on a 90 degree plus day. Two days later, we were entertaining a large group of friends and were thrilled that our home was quite comfortable on that hot, sticky day. We were very pleased with the work and professionalism of Chatham Comfort Controls and are happy to recommend their services.
